In January 2017, we will be renovating 15 bedrooms throughout Abbey House Hotel & Gardens. This is a very exciting time for us as it will complete the rebrand of the hotel. Future guests staying in hotel, whether it be a short break, romantic getaway, corporate stays or the end of your perfect wedding day, will experience the best luxury comforts that Abbey House Hotel & Gardens have to offer.
We decided to keep everything as local to the Furness area as possible including suppliers and contractors. This means that we can keep the renovation for the beautifully designed, luxury rooms on track to be completed by the end of February 2017.
Enjoy a work out? In 2018 the hotel also plans to have a fully working gym, complete with state of the art equipment, which will be available for exclusive use of our guests.
Why stop there? We will also be welcoming a new treatment room for both residents and non-residents. The treatment room will be fitted out with two transformable private rooms and completed with the top of the range beauty parlour and products. The Elements team will be here to make you feel pampered and relaxed throughout your stay at the hotel, with a range of massages from an Indian head massage to a full body lava shell massage, we believe you will walk away felling the best version of yourself!
The hotels rebrand will be completed with eye-catching garden landscapes and a further extension on our Cavendish Suite, defining Abbey House Hotel & Gardens as THE wedding venue of the North West.
Here are a few things that can help you be prepared for the big day…
1 – Make a list…
Out of all the lists you must have made throughout the planning stages of your wedding this will be your last and most vital one! Your list should include all of the final touches you have spent so much time and thought over in the recent months. From table scatters to wedding favors you should take note of all of the things you want to pass onto your wedding coordinator on the day!
That’s the hard bit done! Once you have passed all of your items over you need to hand the list to your maid of honor (or delegated person) to collect all of those things for you after your big day! No use letting everybody get involved as you’ll be collecting items from your friends and family for weeks, if not months later!
2 – Pack the right things for your morning after!
You want to wake up feeling fresh and revitalized for your very first day as a married couple, don’t you? A sugary drink and some paracetamol definitely would not go a miss…and if you don’t need them your bridesmaids and groomsmen might! Better be safe than sorry. Think what do you usually need in the morning after the important event and pack it. Good make up kit or re-hydrating supplements might come in handy to help you get up and start the day easier too.
3 – Take care of your dress!
Your wedding dress is your long lasting memory of that special day. Preserving it for as long as possible, even for your children might give you many more special moments. One of the wisest things I have heard was a bride booking her dress into the dry cleaners for the day after, assuming maybe…but wise? Yes!
4 – Book your transport!
Whether you are going straight off on your honeymoon or to the warmth of your own home you need to know you have a safe ride! Organize with your friends and family, or book a taxi in advance just to make sure you have a smooth and easy first day of marriage!
5 – Have your thank you cards ready!
Not for your gifts but for the people who have kept you cool, calm and sane! Whether it be the florist who has spoken to you several times over to make sure you have got the perfect bridal bouquet, or your make-up artist who has made you feel extra special on the day. Think about all those people who have made your day possible…they will appreciate it!

What an amazing year it has been for Abbey House Hotel & Gardens! As this eventful year comes to an end we look back at some the highlights.
June 2014 – Brand New Website!
After lots of hard work we were happy to launch our new website in June. Featuring a brand new design with a focus on ease of use we hope that our current and future guests continue to love using our website.
July 2015 – And The Award Goes To…..
Hot on the heels of our new website we were bowled over by receiving 2 top awards. We first won the County Brides ‘Best Wedding Venue in Cumbria’. And this is for the fourth year in a row! Our second award was for our new dining concept.. Oscar’s. Our recent huge refurbishment saw the introduction of a brand new restaurant. Oscar’s offers a welcoming atmosphere with a showcase of the best local Cumbrian products.
2015 And Beyond…
We are really looking forward to 2015 with all its great weddings, conferences, holidays and dining at our fine establishment. Now is the time to start planning the perfect weekend break, country wedding or corporate function and where better to look than Abbey House Hotel & Gardens!
Now we don’t want to brag, but we are brimming with excitement and are so so proud to have won our recent awards!
Firstly, we have now won County Brides ‘Best Wedding Venue in Cumbria’ for the fourth year in a row! Four years! We think that’s pretty good going if we do say so ourselves.
Previous Brides and Grooms and all those that come with them – mothers of the bride, best men, brides maid, second cousins and Fluffy the family cat – are asked, if they think that we are deserving, to vote for us via the County Brides website.
All the votes from each county and category are tallied up and the results announced at a swanky awards ceremony. So, dressed up in their glad rags, off our general manager and deputy manager went to find out the results. Drum roll please….. WE WON!
After all the hard work the staff put in to creating a truly special day for happy couples, it is a wonderful reward! Thank you SO much to everyone who voted for us! We really do appreciate it. For those of you looking for your venue… why not come and see what all the fuss is about?!
Our second award that we have recently achieved is for our new dining concept.. Oscar’s. As I’m sure you are aware, we have recently undergone a huge refurbishment which saw the introduction of a new restaurant. We wanted to create something contemporary that still felt welcoming and most importantly, provided the best of local produce that Cumbria has to offer. We can proudly say that we feel we have achieved this after we were awarded a Rosette for our food!
Lots of thanks and praise goes to our hard working chefs, who are constantly making sure our fresh food is cooked to perfection just for you! Come and try our award winning dining for yourself!
Due to new government restrictions, we are temporarily closed to leisure guests at Abbey House Hotel & Gardens and Oscar’s restaurant. We currently remain open Monday to Friday for those who are key workers.
Based on current Government guidelines, will be reopening outdoor spaces from April 12th for outdoor dining, then reopening the hotel for leisure guest stays from May 17th. We are so excited at the prospect of welcoming everyone back!
Please be patient with us during these uncertain times. To avoid disappointment, don't leave it too late to book your staycation for May 17th onwards, please feel free to book your staycation now, in advance on our flexible rate for piece of mind.
