Looking for the ideal wedding venue is no easy task but Abbey House Hotel & Gardens is truly a venue that can tick all the boxes. It’s certainly a country estate, a castle? If you like, has the magical ‘Hogwarts’ feel and when exploring to the back of the estate grounds you are taken in by the magical Furness Abbey!
Furness Abbey (or St Mary of Furness) is a Cistercian Monastery dating back to 1123 and was built for the Order of Savigny, Count Stephen of Boulogne. Furness Abbey is a magnificent spectacle and offers unique opportunities for stunning photography. You can also have mock ceremonies or a blessing within the Abbey grounds for a truly memorable occasion. The award winning Abbey House Wedding Team have been able to create some amazing ceremonies and are very accessible throughout the process, offering a stress free environment to evolve your dream day.
Opposite the Abbey Ruins is the grounds entrance back to Abbey House, everything fits in perfectly and the walk back to the hotel is lovely, you can really envisage your special day taking shape! At the crest of the path the castle house comes back into view and you are able to take a respite in the Al Fresco area towards the back of Oscars. Oscars is the hotel restaurant, rosette awarded and excellent value for the quality! Afternoon tea within the Abbey House estate is a wonderful experience. The Al Fresco area is just down from the terrace of the Great Hall, one of the magnificent ceremony rooms within the castle house.
The two main wedding venues within the hotel are the Great Hall & the Cavendish Suite (named after Lord Cavendish, Baron Cavendish of Furness) The Abbey House estate is able to cater for many functions in one day but most wedding options prefer the exclusive use of the wedding venues and be the only wedding guaranteed on any particular day.
The Great Hall, in true castle like glory, is a contrast of original sandstone accompanied with oak panelling. Although an extensive multi-million pound refurbishment has seen the wood receive a new lease of life with a very subtle lime-wash, it takes nothing away from the originality of the room. Contemporary and Classic have been married together with great thought to create a room of magnificence. Adjoining the Great Hall is Abbotts bar and access to the rear terrace, an ideal place for cocktails and canapes.
The Cavendish Suite offers a modern expanse, over twice the room of the Great Hall, the Abbey House estate are able to cater for parties of upto 200 for a formal wedding breakfast.
Accommodations at Abbey House Hotel & Gardens are available in the main castle house, a purpose built extension, which also incorporates the Cavendish Suite and four rooms located in ‘The Lodge’, originally the groundskeepers cottage within the estate. With 60 rooms in total, Abbey House Hotel & Gardens can sleep upto 140 guests at any one time, utilising a variety of bedrooms.
The rooms are classic and contemporary, all offering every facility you would expect from a luxury 4 star hotel. Beautiful toiletries, with the Luxury Suites receiving Clarins products as standard! Complimentary WiFi which works effortlessly, rare in castle like properties!
In short, we are booking Abbey House Hotel & Gardens for a Crystal wedding in 2018 at, what we consider, very reasonable cost.
For a venue that offers so much, you really don’t need to look elsewhere.
